The Supreme Court made it mendetory in a September 1, 2025, that all in-service teachers with more than five years of service must pass the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) within two years to continue their jobs. Teachers with less than five years of service remaining are not required to take the TET but will not be eligible for promotions. This judgment applies to teachers in non-minority institutions and aims to strengthen the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
